Rain, wind, and bagpipes – a festive day at Koldinghus!

Late Friday afternoon, 25 expectant and high-spirited candidates braved rain, blustery weather, and the less-than-festive whims of the elements to be admitted to the Koldinghus Order. Nothing, it seemed—not even the Danish autumn weather—could dampen the spirits of the prospective members.

The induction took place within the atmospheric setting of the Ruin Hall at the historic royal castle of Koldinghus, where the echoes of history mingled with the festivities. Along the way, there was even a detour to the Giant Tower, where a very practical fire drill served as a reminder that even royal surroundings do not exempt one from maintaining fire safety!

The day also featured a genuine premiere: for the first time, a bagpipe duet was performed! The notes rang out, followed by applause so rhythmic and enthusiastic that it made the ancient castle walls resound.

After an eventful day filled with solemnity, humour, and musical innovations, the event concluded in the traditional manner. Wine and beer were served to refresh the palate, loosen the vocal cords, and ensure that no one went home thirsty.
